Articulate Storyline 360

Originally, this portfolio was created using free tools to complete my micromaster degree in Instructional Design from the University of Maryland. However, after that was complete I took another class in which I specifically learned the Articulate 360 software. I focused on using Storyline.

During this course, I recreated a few of the modules and learning activities that I originally designed in the Teacher Burnout Prevention course on Canvas. Using storyline I was able to make the learning activities more interactive and engaging for the learners.

Quiz Game

One huge advantage of using Articulate Storyline 360 is the large number of interactive features that can be designed into learning activities. To learn many of the interactive and design features that are available within the software, I created a jeopardy style quiz game. Just a few of the features I learned and applied to create this game were variables, layers, and triggers. This could be used as an alternative to the quiz in the seventh module of the teacher burnout prevention course I created.

Furthermore, I created a drag and drop activity using the Storyline software. To see this please navigate to Module 6 within the course on Canvas and click the drag and drop activity. 

Interactivity

Originally, for the Teacher Burnout Prevention Course I designed I used the tools in Canvas and the free version of iSpring as an authoring tool to teach content. These tools can be used effectively, however, the interactive options within Storyline are going to result in more effective and engaging learning for the learners in the class. 

 

Originally, in Canvas, in Module 4, I created a page with an image, text, and a video. I made a second version with the same content and video but this time I used the Articulate software. The content is presented in smaller chunks which is a more effective way to learn and includes more interactivity.  One important feature I learned throughout this work was the accessibility features that are available within Articulate Storyline.

Navigate to Module 4 within the homepage of the Teacher Burnout Prevention Course and click on Learn about Journaling. You will see two version of this- one is labeled as a Canvas version and the other is labeled as an Articulate version.

Additionally, Module 5 of the course is about physical health and manifestations of stress. Originally, content was created using the free version of the iSpring software. This is a better option for creating learning opportunities than using pages feature within the Canvas learning management software. However, I recreated the same content within Articulate Storyline and that resulted in an even better presentation of the content for the learners. On example of an enhancement is I was able to add in interactive buttons that the learners must click to access the content, helping to ensure engagement. I also learned and utilized  using states so the buttons change color after they've been clicked on, ensuring all the content is seen by the learner. There are also quiz questions with embedded characters which add to the engagement without resulting in cognitive overload. There is also a results page at the end.

One final acknowledgement I would like to make is that there are a few minor details I overlooked when I was beginning to use Storyline. There are a couple of untitled slides and an untitled scene. First, these small details are important when working with a team. While I can identify these mistakes myself, having a second pair of eyes on my work would have provided editing and revisionary feedback that could have made the content less flawed and even better for the learners. Collaboration is critical. I will absolutely update this content and make these necessary changes when I have access to the software again.
